In this Two-Day Weekend Mix Handbuilding and Throwing Workshop, I’ll guide you through the fundamental techniques of pottery making. Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, this workshop is designed to help you explore a range of techniques, including coiling, pinching, creating unique surface decorations, and throwing and trimming on the potter’s wheel.
One of the great things about this two-day workshop is the chance to really immerse yourself in working with clay. You’ll have the time to think about your designs and get hands-on experience with this wonderful material.
On the first day, we’ll start with soft clay, learning how to build coils and create slabs that will become plates. By the second day, when the clay has firmed up, we’ll refine your pieces, add finishing touches, and even attach elements like handles.
We’ll also spend time on the potter’s wheel, starting with the basics of centering clay and moving on to throwing cylinders and bowls. On Sunday, we'll focus on trimming your work, giving your bowls feet, and tidying up your pieces. During the last part of the second day, we’ll explore decoration techniques using slip and have fun with texture tools and stamps to add unique details.
After the workshop, your pieces will be carefully dried and fired. This process takes about four weeks to ensure everything is perfect. We’ll email you when your pieces are ready for collection.
Looking forward to creating with you!
For the work that you decide to fire, there will be a charge of £5 per kilogram to cover materials and fuel.
The workshop runs between 10:00am and 15:00pm on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th September.
